Rensselaer County recognizes that safe and harmonious transportation of children with various special needs can only be realized as a result of the cooperation between schools, transportation providers, parents of children and County Agencies. Recognition and acceptance of each party’s responsibility will help maintain safe, trouble free transportation for the children enrolled in the programs.
By the within standards and specifications, Rensselaer County’s intent is to obtain bids for safe and economical transportation for children in its special needs program. In addition to its own policy and procedures, Rensselaer County uses as its guideline the strict rules and regulations promulgated by the New York State Education Department and the New York State Department of Transportation.
As its overall goal, Rensselaer County desires to provide the safest, dependable and economical transportation for the students in its Early Intervention and Preschool programs. In furtherance of this goal, Rensselaer County has thoroughly researched the applicable statutes, regulations and transportation bids of other Counties. As a result, Rensselaer County sets forth herein, the most strict and comprehensive requirements for transportation providers allowed and/or used by any county or school district for the transportation of Children with Special Needs.
