CURRENT STATUS

The Rochester City School District is implementing a district-wide pilot of the 6-8 OpenSciEd curriculum commencing September 2021. Instructional pedagogy aligned to three-dimensional, student-centered instruction as well as specific guidance on the use of the OpenSciEd material is required

DESIRED OUTCOMES

To build teacher capacity and understanding focused on implementation of three-dimensional teaching and learning based upon A Framework for K-12 Science Education and the New York State Science Learning Standards.
To prepare and support teachers as they implement the OpenSciEd curricula including:

In-depth understanding of storyline driving student sensemaking
Strategies that engage students in phenomena-driven inquiry
Instructional routines centered on equitable engagement
