The Wayne county Department of Aging and Youth is currently seeking proposals from qualified non-profits or municipalities interested in providing Youth Sports Services to underserved children and youth ages 6-17. These awards are designed to promote positive youth development and family engagement. Studies show that youth who participate in sports experience more positive social, emotional, health and educational outcomes, which last into adulthood. The targeted population is underserved and under resourced children and youth, including those who have barriers to participate in sports, such as youth with disabilities, girls, transgender, gay, lesbian , non-binary, those in public housing or neighborhoods experiencing higher crime and violence, as well as children from poor performing school districts.
All funds are appropriated by the Wayne County Department of Aging and Youth, to eligible applicants serving children and youth under the age of 18. Wayne County is seeking a broad range of sports that include organized activities with movement, physical fitness, as well as outdoor engagement activities such as yoga, hiking, horseback riding, dance, swimming, sailing etc.
