The Town of East Greenwich, Rhode Island, is seeking qualified consultants to provide proposals for a comprehensive analysis of police and fire operations and to provide specific recommendations regarding current and future staffing levels in its Police and Fire Departments.
East Greenwich, Rhode Island is located in Kent County. The town encompasses an area of 16.7 square miles of which, 16.58 square miles is land and 0.14 square miles is water. Division Street roughly forms the border with the town of Warwick to the north, west until Route 2. Greenwich Cove, an arm of the Greenwich Bay and mouth of the Maskerchugg River, is the easternmost part of the town. Four hills roll progressively up to the border of West Greenwich, and Frenchtown Road is a rough reference to the boundary of North Kingstown.
Since the turn of the millennium, the Town has become home to a wide-array of medical buildings and the New England Institute of Technology. The waterfront businesses and marinas are among the most prosperous in the State and the food and beverage district has continued to improve in its statewide notoriety with investment and interest continuing to build. Recreational opportunities are abundant with access to Scalloptown Park and the McHale Nature Trail, with new facility development being planned and a continuing reinvestment in recreational facilities to solidify and add to the quality of life impacting all residents.
This same level of growth as was seen in the late 1990’s has been repeated between 2010 and 2020 with an 8.9% increase or approximately 1,166 achieving a new high of 14,312, while still remaining a reasonably small municipality even by Rhode Island standards. The East Greenwich Public Schools has consistently remained a large part of that discussion and been recognized for their achievements and innovations. All district schools continue to excel and are classified as High Performing by the Rhode Island Department of Education. Access to this type of high-quality public education remains to be one of the notable factors attracting new families to East Greenwich, in concert with statewide centralization and favorable commercial investment, all of which have supported added growth and diversity in the community.
